The Arc is committed to new and innovative way of improving the lives of the individuals we work with, and part of that commitment has involved recently hiring a Music Program Coordinator to implement a Music Program as part of the services offered to said individuals. This music program involves integrating music into the day to day lives of the individuals we work with in ways that reduce the stress and anxiety of daily life, as well as improving mental health and well-being.
The program also involves further integrating individuals into their surrounding community through all the opportunities for community involvement and participation presented by our local music scene and culture, as well as nurturing, growing and deepening relationships between the individuals we work with and the rest of the community through the universal language of music. As Stevie Wonder said, "Music is a world within itself, with a language we all understand, with and equal opportunity, for all to sing and dance and clap their hands."
This is a revolutionary program within our industry of serving individuals with intellectual disabilities which The Arc is excited to implement as we explore new frontiers of helping the individuals we work with to live the best lives they can possibly live.
This project is funded under a Grant Contract with the State of Tennessee, Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services
